Introduction
Welcome to the web site of Composite Inspection Ltd , a member of the Minton Treharne & Davies Group of Companies, based in the UK, providing a flexible response to UK, Europe and Further afield. Aimed at fulfilling the clients requirements in the field of advanced Non Destructive Testing (NDT), specializing in composite materials and structures.
Composites Structures
Composite materials are rapidly increasing in the production of both aerospace and marine structures. To match these advance structures, a modern approach to their inspection and integrity monitoring is required. Composites are by nature inhomogeneous, establishing a good bond before the component enters service is paramount if the structure is to behave as the designer expects. Continued strength throughout the structures life requires periodic inspections, so that defects can be corrected at the lowest possible cost. To achieve we specialize in:-
Non Destructive Testing (NDT)
Testing is required to ensure that the composite structure has been built correctly. Appropriate testing that verifies that the component is effectively bonded and has the required strength is required that at the same time does not damage the part in any way. There are a number of differing methods that can be used,. The main methods we employ are Ultrasonics, Mechanical Impedance, Thermography and Laser Shearography. The range of technologies and equipment are required to cope with the particular requirements of the varied composite materials and structures. No single inspection technology can cope with the variety of builds and style of construction.
Laser Shearography
An advanced inspection system for the process control in manufacture and maintenance of aerospace and marine composites. It is an inspection technology that is both sensitive and rapid - a combination of factors not normally associated with each other. This technique evaluates the strength of a material by analysing the strain field in response to an applied stress.
Aerospace Non Destructive Testing
Vacuum Hood Inspections of Composite Radomes, Rotor Blades, Fuselages and Free-standing Laser Shearography Inspections of intricate composite components using thermal stressing. Non-contact, sensitive inspections of sandwich constructions, engine casings and engine blades. Bond testing using Mechanical Impedance Analysis (MIA), ultrasonics and Eddy Current inspection are carried out. Testing is easily transferred from manufacture to in-service with identical equipment.
Marine Non Destructive Testing
Laser Shearography, Ultrasonic and Mechanical Impedance Analysis (MIA) inspection of Yacht and Boat Hulls and Super Structures. Proving the integrity of the boat before the hull enters the water. Finding defects at any stage of manufacture, where their repair is inexpensive, unobtrusive and cost effective. Our full field inspections are able to inspect hulls, decks and bulkheads
Laser Shearography Equipment
Composite Inspection Ltd work closely with Dantec Dynamics as technical sales advisers for their advanced Laser Shearography equipment in both the UK and Europe
